WEST AFRICAN MONSOON EXPERIMENT
WEST AFRICAN MONSOON EXPERIMENT
A 2-day meeting will be held at NCAR on 28-29 November
to discuss the proposed West African Monsoon Experiment. This experiment was
introduced in the white book recently produced by the French scientific
community.
The aims of this meeting are: to inform and discuss with the US community, plans
for an international experiment in West Africa, potentially in 2004 and to
discuss potential components of the experiment and possible US involvement
The meeting will discuss scientific issues that motivate the proposed experiment
including those related to monsoon dynamics and associated weather systems,
continental water cycle, surface conditions, applications, atmospheric chemistry
and hurricanes. The meeting will also discuss the experimental strategies and
the possible involvement of US-based scientists and observing platforms.
The meeting will thus consist of one day discussing scientific issues and one
day discussing the experiment.
A summary document of the meeting including a proposed strategy will be prepared
after the meeting by the organizing committee.
Please let Chris Thorncroft know as soon as possible whether you plan to attend. An agenda for the meeting will be distributed
shortly together with information regarding accommodation.
