THUNDERSTORM VERIFICATIONS FROM 18Z, 6/18/07 UNTIL 18Z, 6/19/07 ---------------------------------------------------------------- ALB GSO BNA TPA OKC OMA PIA BIS DEN SLC ---------------------------------------------------------------- VERIFICATIONS o o T T o o *T* o o o T = THUNDER; L = distant lightning, no thunder; o = nothing ---------------------------------------------------------------- Note: The verification of THUNDER at KPIA is supported by Doppler radar reports (40,000 foot cloud tops) and the fact that every reporting station around KPIA (KMQB, KPNT, KBGB, KBMI) reported "TS" as the line of storms passed. There was a solid, thick line of LTGCG that passed over the KPIA area, yet there were no reports of CB, LTG or TS in any of the KPIA METARS, just +RA (0.60+" in less than one hour)! This is reminiscent of a similar event last summer at KPIA in which the regional NWS Office agreed and made a change in the KPIA Daily Climate Report. This time, that same NWS Office seemed to be "disinterested" in getting it right. There may be more verification "surprises" to come at KPIA this summer, but rest assured, this is our final summer using KPIA. A switch to either KSPI or KCMI is in store for Summer 2008 and beyond.
