Realtime Extended, High-Resolution Dynamic Tropopause Animations

  • Product Description
  • DT Potential Temperature and Winds
  • DT Pressure and Deep-Layer Shear
  • General Description

These animations are produced daily by the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, at the University of Albany. The "short" animations extend from 23 September 2004 to the present at 6-hourly intervals; "long" animations extend back to 1 August 2004 but are archived only at 12 hour intervals. All fields are computed using pressure-level data from the Global Forecast System final analysis at full resolution (1 degree). The dynamic tropopause is taken to be the 2.0 PVU surface. Fields are computed globally, but are displayed only for the North Atlantic Ocean and surrounding areas.

Dynamic Tropopause Potential Temperatures and Winds, and 925-850hPa Relative Vorticity

Dynamic Tropopause Pressure, DT-850hPa Shear, and 925-850hPa Relative Vorticity
