Tropical Storm Zeta (2005) is the last (?) tropical storm of the most active season on record in the North Atlantic basin. The NHC started tracking the storm on 29 December 2005 and is still (as of 5 January) still issuing advisories. The storm has moved slowly westward near the centre of the basin, and has failed (so far) to reach hurricane status. This web page provides a reference for internal research discussions concerning the system.
A set of satellite images have been prepared to assist with an evaluation of Zeta's unusual lifecycle. These images have been provided by the NERC Satellite Receiving Station, Dundee University, Scotland and remain the property of that institution (see copyright information).
A set of diagnostics has been produced from the full-resolution GFS analysis grids (0.5 degree gridspacing). There are currently no special diagnostics avaialble. Details are available on the individual animations.
