Climatology Soundings for the Southeast
US (3-hourly times)
Soundings were created by compositing
all available soundings in each area (click here for map). Hours displayed here
were required to have at least 100 days worth of radiosonde observations.
To eliminate the potential bias that extra soundings were taken on
severe weather days, the climatology sounding could not have a higher percentage
of days with tornado reports than occurred for the entire time period for
that region (e.g., FL had tornado reports on 6.6% of cool season days from
1950-2001, so hours having less than 6.6% of their soundings taken on tornado
days are displayed here). Click HERE for yearly/hourly
