Study Guide Material (Stacey’s Guide) :

1)    Know Earth’s place in the Solar System.  Explain how Earth’s revolution around

     the sun determines the yearly seasons.  What is the mean temperature of Earth? 

2)    Distinguish between latitude and longitude.  How are they measured?  What are

     meridians?  Where are the Prime Meridian and International Date Line?  The

     Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn?  The Arctic and Antarctic Circles?  Know

     longitude and relation to time of day.  How are time zones established?

3)    Be able to use GMT and convert to Eastern Standard Time (EST). 

4)    What is a Mercator map projection?  Why is it the best projection for navigation?

5)      What is a “bathymetric” chart?  What is a “physiographic” map?
