Faculty Position in Hydroclimatology or Weather-Systems Dynamics

The Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (DAES) of the University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks applicants at the Assistant (tenure track) or Associate Professor level, effective Fall 2011. This is a 10-month appointment that allows supplementary summer salary from research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the responsibilities of a full-time faculty member in the DAES.
We are seeking to fill one position from candidates with experience in two possible areas: Hydroclimatology and Weather Systems Dynamics. The ideal candidate for the hydrology/climate area would have a solid grounding in the theory of the hydrologic cycle and climate including how they interact. The ideal candidate for the weather systems area would have a solid grounding in the theory of weather systems in midlatitudes, in the tropics or both. However, candidates whose research specialization complements existing research programs in the department are also encouraged to apply.
Qualified candidates must have a doctorate in atmospheric science, meteorology, or a closely related field. Candidates are expected to provide evidence that they can teach with distinction at the undergraduate and graduate level and be an effective mentor of graduate students. Applicants must also address in their applications their ability to work with and instruct culturally diverse populations. They must demonstrate ability to build and maintain a strong, externally funded research program.
