Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences

The Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at the University at Albany, State University of New York , seeks applications for a postdoctoral research scientist to work on a high-resolution reconstruction of the South American Summer Monsoon over the past millennium. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an isotopic forward model based on hitherto unexploited high-quality climatological, glaciological and geochemical datafrom a tropical ice core site, and then apply the model using a suite of isotope-enabled millennium runs from GCMs.

The successful candidate will have (1) a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (climate dynamics, paleoclimate, glaciology, isotope geochemistry); (2) experience with numerical models and working with large datasets; (3) strong communications and collaboration skills and (4) be willing to travel and participate in field work in the Andes. The position is for up to 3 years, contingent on satisfactory performance, and will be based in Albany, NY, but requires collaborations with colleagues at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and NASA/GISS in New York City.

Anticipated start date is September 2013. For full consideration, please send a letter of application, a current CV with list of publications, and the names and contact information of three references to Mathias Vuille (mvuille@albany.edu ).
