I am an
Associate Professor in the Department of Atmospheric and
Environmental Sciences at the University at Albany, State
University of New York (SUNY). I received my Ph.D. in 1995 from
the University of Bern, Switzerland and worked as a Research
Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst,
before joining the University at Albany in 2008. I teach courses
on Climate Variability and Predictability, Climate Change,
Paleoclimatology, and Major Topics in Environmental Science. My
research focuses on past, present and future climate change in
the tropics. I have participated in over a dozen expeditions to
the Andes and Mt. Kilimanjaro. I served as a contributing author
to the 3rd Assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) and have briefed congressional staffers,
management from the World Bank, the Interamerican Development
Bank and UNESCO on impacts of climate change in Andean
countries. I currently serve as a Senior
Fellow in the U.S. State Department's Energy and
Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA)
initiative and as a U.S.
representative in the National Committee for the
International Union of Quaternary Research
(INQUA).
