Potential
Impacts of Long-term Drought on Congo Rainforest
Prof.
Liming Zhou led a large, interdisciplinary and international research team to
examine drought impacts on tropical rainforest. They find a widespread decline
in vegetation greenness and water content in the Congolese rainforest in the
past 10-13 years and this large-scale browning is attributed, at least
partially, to the long-term drying trend observed in central Africa.
This study titled “'Widespread decline of Congo rainforest greenness
in the past decade” was published online at Nature’s website. It has been featured
in this week’s press release for Nature.
Nature
also has a NEWS&VIEW paper particularly for Liming’s
study.
