The Northeast Tropical Workshop is a biennial, regional workshop to share and discuss the latest advances in tropical meteorology and climate research. Participation is limited to individuals in the northeast U.S. and neighboring Canadian provinces in order to provide a smaller format that allows time for discussion.

Where and when is the workshop?

The workshop will be held at the University at Albany ETEC building (see the right side of the campus map). ETEC is located on the New York state office building campus, which is surrounding by two ring roads, each going one way. You want to be on the inner ring road, going clockwise. Follow signs to ETEC or use this Google navigation link.

The workshop will commence the morning of 5 June, and the workshop will end the afternoon of 7 June.

Who is attending?

See the program for an attendee list. Note that some attendees will be attending virtually.

How do I reserve a hotel room?

You may reserve a group-block room at the Residence Inn or the Hampton Inn by 4 May at a cost of $114 per night + taxes. Use the reservation links to book.

Alternatively, if you prefer another hotel, there are many other hotels near the UAlbany campus.

Where do I park for the workshop?

You may park in the ETEC parking lot in any unrestricted spot. Parking is included in the registration fee.

How may I register and submit an abstract?

The registration and abstract submission deadline has passed. If you wish to late register to attend the workshop in-person or virtually, please email Brian Tang.

What is the registration cost, and what meals does it include?

The registration fee is $210 for in-person attendees. Please pay the registration fee using the UAlbany EPay system by 22 May using a credit card. There will be no option to pay on site.

The registration fee includes lunch each day, all coffee breaks, and a reception and dinner on Mon. To keep things manageable for us, the fee is the same for all in-person attendees regardless of your length of stay.

There is no cost for virtual attendance.

What is the format of the workshop?

There will be a mix of talks and posters. Each session will have 4-5 talks followed by a discussion period. See the schedule for details.

I am participating virtually. How do I join?

Virtual participants have been emailed a Zoom link. You are required to be signed into a Zoom account for access. We will have someone monitoring the chat for troubleshooting and questions during the discussion periods.

What is the length of a talk?

We ask all speakers to aim for a 13-minute talk to allow a couple minutes for clarification questions and for transition time between talks. It is important to keep to this length to preserve discussion time and breaks.

What is the recommended poster size?

4 ft. wide x 3 ft. high

Will there be any free time?

We are leaving Tuesday after 5:15 pm free for you to gather with others. If you would like recommendations on restaurants or bars, we would be happy to give you some.

Who may I contact if I have questions?
