The Northeast Tropical Workshop is a biennial, regional workshop to share and discuss the latest advances in tropical meteorology and climate research. Participation is limited to individuals in the northeast U.S. and neighboring Canadian provinces in order to provide a smaller format that allows time for discussion.

Where and when is the workshop?

The workshop will be held at the University at Albany ETEC building (see the right side of the campus map). ETEC is located on the New York state office building campus, which is surrounding by two ring roads, each going one way. You want to be on the inner ring road, going clockwise. Follow signs to ETEC or use this Google navigation link.

The workshop will commence the morning of Monday August 4, and the workshop will end the afternoon of Wednesday August 6.

Who is attending?

We will publish a program with an attendee list after the registration and abstract deadline.

How do I reserve a hotel room?

A group block of rooms has been arranged at the Hampton Inn Albany - Western Ave/University Area at the government rate. Use this link to book. Reservations must be made by July 7.

Alternatively, if you prefer a different hotel or no more group-block rooms are available, there are many other hotels near the UAlbany campus.

Where do I park for the workshop?

You may park in the ETEC parking lot in any unrestricted spot.

How may I register and submit an abstract?

Please register and, if you are planning to present, submit a presentation title and abstract by July 3 by filling out this form.

What is the registration cost, and what meals does it include?

The registration fee is TBD. For an estimate, it was $210 for in-person attendees last time the workshop was held. The registration fee will include lunch each day, all coffee breaks, and a dinner on the first night of the workshop. To keep things manageable for us, the fee will be the same for all in-person attendees regardless of your length of stay.

Details on how to pay the registration fee, along with the payment deadline, will be sent out later.

What is the format of the workshop?

There will be a mix of talks and posters. Each session will have around 4-5 talks followed by a discussion period.

Because of the emphasis on discussion, we will limit the number of talks. If there are too many talk requests, we will request research groups self-regulate and choose some talks to be posters.

I am participating virtually. Will there be a reduced registration fee? How do I join?

There will be reduced registration fee for virtual attendees, and that fee is TBD.

Virtual participants will be sent a Zoom link. You are required to be signed into a Zoom account for access. We will have someone monitoring the chat for troubleshooting and questions during the discussion periods.

What is the length of a talk?

We ask all speakers to aim for a 13-minute talk to allow a couple minutes for clarification questions and for transition time between talks. It is important to keep to this length to preserve discussion time and breaks.

What is the recommended poster size?

4 ft. wide x 3 ft. high

Will there be any free time?

We are leaving the evening of Tuesday August 5 free for you to gather with others. If you would like recommendations on restaurants or bars, we would be happy to give you some.

Who may I contact if I have questions?
