Great gobs of mucky gump (calcareous foram ooze) freshly
arrived on the
R.V. Knorr in a dredge hauled from the ocean
floor about 3000m below.
Central North Atlantic, near the Oceanographer Fracture Zone (~35N,
35W).
Dan Fornari (responsible for the idea of lining the dredge with
sacking) fishes out bedrock fragments from the ooze.
